Update May 9, 2008

As your new District 1 Director, let me just say howdy to you all. The following is my Inaugural Address: "Thanks, Everyone!"

Anyway, I do appreciate this opportunity to serve you all. Steve Flynn did (and is still doing) an outstanding job serving district 1 and our profession in general.

I thought that the 2008 Convention went well & the Continuing Education courses were well presented. Natchitoches is one quaint little town!

I plan to attend LSPS 2008 Legislative Day, happening this coming Thursday, May 15 at the State Capitol in BR. Let me know if any of you all want to make the trek. If you do decide to go, it would be great if you would contact your state senator & representative and let them know that you're going to be there. Contact me at 504-582-2201 or rrg@fenstermaker.com for further information.

Be on the lookout for a Summer District 1 Meeting announcement. It would be something fun for everyone! More later...

I'll fill you all in on the Legislative Day proceedings in my next post.

 - Ralph Gipson

Update April 14, 2008

Greetings District 1.

Many thanks to Lee and the NEI gang for helping with the every now and then annual crawfish boil. We had about 30 tail pinchers at the Landmark Surveying Castle...that place is dynomite!

I did another Trigstar at East St. John High School... these are fun and easy. Let me know if any of you would like to help next year.

Ralph Gipson won this years District 1 election in dramatic floor fight at the crawfish boil. He promises to unite us with good feelings at the Convention.

Legislative Day is coming in mid May let me know who needs a ride.

Update October 22, 2007

The State Board meeting at Nicholls University on October 6 was interesting and imformative. The high point on the agenda was approving an allocation to purchase the Geomatics program their first equipment locker. This past Tuesday we did a Careers in Science presentation at Mcdonough 35 in New Orleans to about 80 students. They were interested when informed of our occupation. We should become more active in school presentations. I am in the process of planning our Holiday meeting and could use a little help. Please contact me at 985-652-6356 if you can help.

Update August 16, 2007

The State Board meeting in Alexandria was productive. A LAPELS point of interest was surveyors are not dating and signing their seals. The drawing date and the date of the seal may be two different dates! At our September meeting, I will try to get a LAPELS rep for explanation. Also, we are approved to give a 1 hr ethics presentation at this meeting. I could use a discussion leader (then you get 2 hrs). Please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions.
