[edit] Public Land Survey Monument Recovery Database

The State Land Office maintains all of the official Public Lands Survey plats and field notes for the State of Louisiana. The majority of these original surveys were performed in the 1800's. With the passing of years, the original corner monuments placed by these early surveyors become more difficult to locate. It is the Surveyors responsibility to "follow the footsteps" of the original surveyor when retracing boundaries shown on the official township survey plats. To enhance our historical records the State Land Office is embarking on an effort to create a database containing Public Land Survey monument recovery information. All information received by the State Land Office will be available at this website (Link provided below). If you have recovered a section corner monument or have reset a section corner monument, please complete the form below and return it to our office. This database is a "work in progress" and as more information is submitted, the more valuable this tool becomes. Please, take some time to review your records to see if you have some information to submit. It should be noted that individual surveyors, on a voluntary basis, have submitted the information contained within this database. The State Land Office does not certify that any of the monuments described herein mark the actual corners they are intended to represent. This database should be used as a research tool only.
